G is for Gardening

Gardening Week started off with painting our own pots.

Once they had dried, we headed outside and filled them with potting soil. Each of the kids got two green lentils (mung beans) to plant. After watering them, we put them all in a shady corner to sprout.

By Friday they had all begun to grow and the kids took them home with pride.

The big kids are getting comfortable on the swings now.

And these three had all the quiet-room toys piled into the tent before the end of the day. They didn't have as much fun cleaning it up as they did making the mass, however.

This little miss took quiet-time to a whole new level.

Our Monday craft was a workout for those fine-motor-skills.

Twisting crate paper up into little flower shapes to create a garden scene... it proved to be more of a challenge for chubby fingers than we expected.

A few new games were added to rotation time this week too. This one we called "Bamboo Balance". The kids each got a piece of bamboo and had to pass it down from friend to friend before dropping it into a bucket. They really got the hang of it after a while.

The next one was targeted at developing hand muscles. They had to knock down 3 balls and hit 3 flowers with a squirt bottle. Fun!

These boys got super silly with the Mr. Potato Head pieces.

Once a week we work on phonics and letter learning. They are getting better and better.

Here we were getting them to jump and hop on one foot.

When they got to the end of the footprints, they had to toss three beanbags into a bucket. They loved this game!

Friday, I was really sick and quarantined myself in our room. The kids made tissue-paper bouquets and played this aiming game where they threw beans at a target covered in glue. It amazes me the things my husband comes up with. Ha ha.

Gardening Week was the perfect follow-up to Farming. We learned all about what plants need to grow, how to take care of a seedling and we even got everyone to get their hands dirty, which is a major accomplishment.

Coming up next... H is for Hot Air Balloons.
