B is for...

This week at illumiNation we are all about the letter B, and what better to learn about along with the letter-of-the week than... you guessed it, BUGS!
The favorite Circle Time activity this week has been arranging the caterpillars in order from biggest to smallest, and visa-versa. It's getting too easy; guess it's time to make more caterpillars.

It doesn't take much coaxing to get the kids involved in craft time. I mean, glue sticks and tissue paper... who wouldn't want to get their hands on that?

I love, love, love seeing their finished products! On Monday we made these "B Butterflies". How cute, right?

And on Tuesday we all worked together to make the "world's longest caterpillar".

I asked the Preschoolers what we should name it and one of them suggested, Zion. So, Zion it is. We stuck his to the wall and admired him for a while (okay, a few seconds) before running outside for free time.

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous, so we take every opportunity to get outside.

Look at these two hanging out in the climbing box. Maybe it's because this is my son in the photo, but I can't help but laugh when I look at it, thinking I'll likely find the same scene about 16 years from now. Ha ha.

Free Time is followed by phonics and letter learning for the preschool class. I'd say they just about have the letter B down.

We tried out a new game today to help the Preschoolers with letter recognition. I called it "The Alphabet Monster". The monster requested certain letters or numbers to eat, and the kids had to find the right one and feed it to him. If they chose incorrectly, the monster spit it back out with a very dramatic "phooey".
So. Much. Fun!

After all that time in sitting in one place, it was time to get moving. We taught the students how to play Red Light, Green Light.

We explained the rules, and then they were off.

Green light!

Everyone wanted to take a turn "being the teacher".

Once we had them thoroughly exhausted, we got out the finger paints and playdough.

This creepy, little guy was one of my favorite Preschool creations. He reminds me of something, I just can't put my finger on it.

Tomorrow we are going to learn all about how spiders spin webs and how caterpillars become butterflies. I can't wait!
